Hip-Hop|Club Banger Reviews (23) [August 2011 Edition]

It's been a really intense past couple of months for me. So I haven't been keeping up with the music scene until now. So I apologize for not updating sooner. Better late than never though. August is approaching its last days and September is just around the corner. Fall is coming up fast and summer is quickly ending. But that doesn't mean that the music has stopped. There are plenty of songs that will continue heating up the dance floor. So here you go.

This is just a fun party song. Upbeat and having a great time. That's what you think when hear this song. The song is a really good mix with Cobra Starship's poppy tunes and Mac Miller's flows. A definite download.

Slow banger. And a pretty good one at that. It will definitely set the mood right. Especially when you want to cool down from the other club beats. Chris Brown delivers the smooth vocals and Ace Hood is lacin' the track.

Another slow banger for your playlist. This one will get the bumpin' and grindin' started. J. Cole is one of the hot up and coming artists and he does his thing on this track. Check it out.

Cee Lo Green. You can never go wrong with any of his songs. And this one is off of his album, but this single Wiz Khalifa features in it. I think this a type of song you play before you hit downtown for the night life. It definitely puts you in a good mood. Recommended.

Drake - Marvins Room ~ 84 bpm*
Release Date: July 2011

Club/Party - 3/5
The Ladies - 1/5

This is a really really slow slow banger. I would only recommend it for the more experience DJs to mix it in. With that I think its a great song. And I give props to Drake for this. He's very versatile with his music.

Club/Party - 3/5
The Ladies - 4/5
Lastability - 3.5/5

This is a really fun little song. It's by a fairly new artist Elle Varner. But she has the talent and the vocals to back it up. And it helps that J. Cole is on this song as well. I can't wait to hear more from her in the future. This song is more like a throwback to the 90's era. Which I enjoy quite a bit.

I can't believe I missed this little gem from 2010. I guess even though I listened to a lot of music there is always more to listen to. This song gives you a lovey dubby feeling. Both Enrique and Nicole do well as a duet. It goes well in the dance genre.

It's good to hear from Gloria Estefan. She use to represent the Florida scene very well. And a mix with Pitbull this is a track to definitely dance to. Great in itself or in a crazy mix. This one will make you dance the night away. Highly Recommended.

Club/Party - 3/5

Here is a pretty decent club banger by Maino. He's had better ones, but this one can still light the scene up. I don't think this track will last very long, but if you need to add more tracks on your playlist. Here you go. Roscoe Dash does his thing on the track and Maino as well. Check it out.

Here is a really fun song by Qwote. This is really great at beach parties or somewhere really exotic. This song just has that feeling to it. Great to dance with. Pitbull again is in so many songs it doesn't surprise me anymore.

Club/Party - 2.5/5

There's a lot of fun songs this time around. And this one by Royalty feat. Carlitos reminds me of Frankie J feat. Baby Bash. It's a good mix and you won't be disappointed.

This track is alright. Twista and Wale make up for half of this track. The rest is kind of garbage to be honest. But this does belong on some playlists and you can still use it in a mix up or mash up.

This is one of my favorite club bangers for this month. It's a hot track. I love the duet of Wale and J. Cole. Both artists are stirring up the hip hop game. And I expect big things from them next year. Put them on your watch lists. Highly recommended.

Album Review

4/5

Welcome back Black Rob. It's been a long time coming. But I'm glad he's back. It's good to hear some more rap and going back to the 90's style. While I continue to listen to his album more and more, I begin to really to enjoy it for what's it worth. Most of these tracks are definitely cruisin' tracks and it's a lot of real talk. More than a lot of hip hop albums today. There are still a couple of club bangers too.

Album Review

5/5

Wow. Amazing. Craziness. Epic. Bananas. Yes bananas. The album is simply that. David Guetta has really put amazing pieces together. With so many guest appearances he really blends dance/trance with pop/hip-hop artists really well. The "fusion" which I call it will continue to happen and I can't wait for more. Download this now. It's that good.

Album Review

3.5/5

DJ Khaled's first album was pretty good. Album after album I kind of got tired of him. This review kind of reflects that. There are some pretty good songs on here. But none of them are really memorable. And the rest of the tracks are just mediocre. I'm not sure he can call this album we the best forever when there are clearly better albums than this. As much as I am hatin' on this album it's still pretty decent. And you wouldn't be wasting your money if you bought his album. But I think you know what to expect from him.

Album Review

3.5/5

For the price it's really good. The whole album is only $5.99 on iTunes. And there's 23 tracks. If you like Mistah F.A.B., then it's definitely a good deal. I can't really recommend this album to everyone though. Because this album definitely caters to a niche. Check it out for yourself and see if you like anything.

Album Review

4.5/5

Game use to be one of my favorite rappers. And after listening to his newest album he is still one of my favorite rappers. His tracks continue to impress me and his album is different then a lot of the mainstream artists today. He sticks to what he does best and Dr. Dre helped produced a lot of his tracks. He has some collaborations with quite a bit of artists like Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Drake, E-40, Beanie Sigel and others. I really respect a lot of stuff he says in his lyrics and the beats are well produced. Definite download.

Jay Rock - Follow Me Home (Album)*
Release Date: July 26, 2011

icon

4/5

I really like the vibe of all the albums I've reviewed so far. There isn't anything wrong with mainstream music, but sometimes its good to hear something a bit different. Jay Rock's album is in the same flavor as Game's album. A lot of his lyrics are about the streets and how much respect he has for it. Most of the beats are well produced and he is a real smooth rapper. So you can listen to him all day and not get sick of him. Recommended.

JAY Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne (Album)*

4/5

I really liked Kanye West's previous album. I really liked Jay Z's previous album. But I can't say that both of them together is that much better. In fact I think both of their previous albums were better. It's not to say I didn't enjoy this one. But I don't think there were as many strong tracks as the other two albums. They both have great talent. And there are some good ones on here. But I think this album could have been much much better. I still recommend this album whole-heartedly. But don't expect to be blown away. Just a pretty good album. I wish there were more tracks like Otis on this album. I love the blend of  different types of music they did. It really flowed well. Check it out and let me know what you think.

4.5/5

I continue to be impressed with Kelly Rowland. She has really stepped into her own. Her album has a mixture of dance songs to just pure R&B. From songs about independence to songs that are just being sexy. This album just showed her maturation as an artist. I really enjoyed a lot of her songs on this album.

Lil Wayne - The Carter IV (Album)*

4/5

I can see why a lot of people like Lil Wayne. Personally I'm not a big fan of him. But I will give props to where props is due. This is a pretty good album. I think he showcases more of his talent in tracks like How to Love and Mirror. The other tracks are what you expect from him. Some tracks you can tell he is lyrically gifted. Others are just decent and quite forgettable. But overall I enjoyed his album. He's come a long way to showcase why he deserves where he is now. Mad props.
